Clinical Psychologist
Rosebery: Mondays and Tuesdays

Before working as a psychologist, I played music professionally. One thing I learned from this was the importance of listening. I think the best music is made when musicians are listening intently to one another and together crafting meaning out of their musical conversation. I aim to bring that same philosophy to my practice as a psychologist – it is the client’s unique experiences, feelings, thoughts, and beliefs that should shape what happens in therapy, rather than my own theories or preconceptions.

I would describe my personal style as authentic, warm, and non-judgmental. Evidence overwhelmingly suggests that the alliance between therapist and client is more important that the particular approach the therapist uses. I prioritise the therapeutic relationship above the particular method of treatment, and I make a point of monitoring the relationship over time.

Having said that, my primary approach is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), but I draw on and integrate other modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Psychodynamic Therapy (PDT) where this would better suit the client’s needs. I’ve worked with people experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, and personality disorders. I have also published research in the area of anxiety disorders and enjoy keeping myself up to date with the latest research in clinical psychology.
