Niamh Kenny
Clinical Psychologist
Mascot: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
Niamh approaches therapy with curiosity and openness. She acknowledges that suffering is a normal and unavoidable part of the human condition, as human beings are not built to be happy and stress-free. In fact, evolution has favored our ability to detect and fixate on potential threats. Unfortunately, we all have a habit of implementing “solutions” to life’s problems which may work in the short term, but prolong suffering in the long term. Niamh believes that therapy is an opportunity to understand what we do and why we do it, and to create new behavioral patterns that lead to a more meaningful and balanced life.
Niamh has experience working across private practice, high school, university and hospital settings. She has worked with people struggling with relationship problems, identity crises, stress, adjustment difficulties, perfectionism, procrastination, anxiety, depression, guilt, anger, grief, trauma, difficulties regulating emotions, and more. Her approach includes ideas from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy.
Niamh completed her Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) at Macquarie University and her Master of Clinical Psychology at the University of Technology Sydney. She is a generally registered psychologist with AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) and is currently completing her clinical psychology registrar program. She is also a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
